While most students are preparing for a well-deserved winter break, CCG has been hard at work investing in continued education for our technical team. At CCG, professional development isn’t a seasonal event — it’s a year-round commitment. This November, we hosted a hands-on fiber training program to strengthen our team’s expertise and ensure we continue delivering the most reliable, cutting-edge solutions to our clients.
Training Led by CCG Project Manager & Lead Estimator, Josh Jones
The two-day course was led by Josh Jones, CCG’s Project Manager, Lead Estimator, and BICSI-certified lead fiber technician. The training blended classroom-style learning with real-world practice, giving our technicians a strong foundation in the essentials of fiber optic cabling.
Each day included:
- A theory-based lecture reviewing industry standards, proper handling techniques, and best practices
- Hands-on instruction, where technicians practiced fiber stripping, splicing, OTDR testing, and verifying results using EXFO software
- Guided troubleshooting sessions, with Josh demonstrating solutions to common issues encountered in the field
At the end of the course, technicians completed a skills exam to demonstrate mastery of the material.
Achievements & Certification
Each participating technician received a Fiber Training Certificate signed by CCG Vice President Ben Libertini and Project Manager Josh Jones — a recognition of their hard work, progress, and growing expertise. These certifications reflect CCG’s ongoing commitment to acknowledging the professional development of our team members, big or small.

A Technician’s Perspective
Andrew, one of CCG’s experienced estimators who also assists in the field, described the lesson as engaging, informative, and confidence-building.
He praised the combination of presentation and live demonstration, noting that the hands-on experience increased his comfort level and independence with the OTDR tester. He also appreciated Josh’s detailed walkthroughs of real installation scenarios and troubleshooting strategies, which he believes will significantly increase his accuracy on future jobs.
Andrew shared that even with his previous fiber experience, he walked away with valuable new insights — skills he put to use shortly afterward while supporting a project at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.
